Chattanooga is a hidden (pig out) gem at the border of Tennessee and Georgia, which has developed several nice areas which features great chow. I stumbled upon Good Dog by accident; another restaurant was full and I googled "best hot dogs in Chattanooga." They were not wrong!
Good Dog is not your average hot dog place. It only uses local and natural ingredients and features some real European influences. On the wall, for example, it says (in Dutch!): Who has stolen my Frankfurter -- despite the fact that Dutch never use the word "Frankfurter" for a hot dog sausage. I also found an (empty) bucket of Remia Frites Sauce, which was definitely authentic. The menu is built around hot dogs, sausages, and fries - does one really need more?
It was not easy to make a choice out of the almost twenty different types of hot dogs and sausages. The Carolina Chili/Slaw Dog ($4.50): a small snappy dog with a kick, covered with slaw that overpowers the chili, on a nice (kind of European) bun. The New York Street Dog ($3.75) had the same bun and wiener, but came with smooth brown mustard and crispy kraut. The Curry Wurst ($7.50) was, unfortunately, not like a real German Currywurst. However, the very fresh thick sausage was very tasty, covered with fried onions, curry ketchup and mayo, on a big bun. Finally, the Small/Medium Fries were deep fried, real skin potatoes and came with different sauces (including real mayo), which you could also mix. They started to sag a bit too ck in their puntzak (cone).
VERDICT: 93/100
Good Dog offers responsible fast food of great quality. It is a bit pricey, but it is all natural and fresh. Use all sauces and mix them up!
