Dutch Uncle Donuts (Coldwater, MI)

58 E Chicago St, Coldwater, MI 49036, T: 517-278-8965

Dutch Uncle Donuts is an old-school donut place in the quaint historic downtown of Coldwater, Michigan. As I drove up, it looked closed, but a woman was still there, cleaning the floor 'cause the boss lady said so'.

I ordered two donuts for $1.70 (total): one vanilla-chocolate glazed and one apple-crumble. They tasted as good, fresh regular donuts. Or, in the words of my wife, 'as Dunkin Donuts on a good day'. I wish I had also gotten an apple fritter.

VERDICT: 84/100
Honest, affordable donuts in an authentic setting. Not top, but beats Dunkin Donuts.

  1. Having grown up in Coldwater I can honestly say there is nothing in my minds eye that quite measures up to Dutch Uncle Donuts. I remember when the theater was next door we all would head over there for a doughnut before our parents picked us up. They also have amazing homemade soups :) Love this place :)

  2. I visited Dutch Uncle Donuts for the first time ever a month ago. I tried a sugar-coated donut and a chocolate glazed donut. Let me tell you... they were the ABSOLUTE WORST donuts I've ever tasted. The overall selection was bleak to begin with. The donuts tasted like they'd been sitting there at least a day or two (I got there at 7:30 a.m. on a Monday morning... those should have been FRESH!).

And the outside "crunch" made them taste like an old shoe, and even if you decide to have a E.coli chicken salad sandwich you have to wait for them to finish mopping to come assemble you mop handle special! I understand this place has changed ownership some years ago, so I can't comment on the donuts under the prior owner. But it'll be a miracle if this place stays in business on these poor excuses for donuts. Great location and they're blowing it because they have no clue how to make decent donuts. Not to mention the Interior looks like an 80's horror Movie

These guys apparently bought the donut shop from the original owners and don't know a thing about making donuts.or they are to cheap to keep up the standard
