Curry Wolf is a small Imbiss that serves mainly Currywurst and fries but does offer it’s own spicy sauce. It has two locations in Berlin and I visited the one just off the Kudamm.

I get a Meal with Currywurst, Fries and a Drink (€6.70). The Currywurst is the usual soft kind, but the sauce is special. It has some onions in it and has a little kick. The fries are very thin and decent.

Among the best Currywurst I have had in Berlin.

DDR Softies (Berlin, Germany)

DDR Softeis is a small food cart that plays on Ostalgie (nostalgia for the East). It is normally located close to some of the remains of the Berlin Wall, one of the top touristic spots in Berlin. This day it is part of some kind of festival at the also highly touristic Alexanderplatz. The serve just one thing: ‘soft ice’ based on recipe of the former GDR. I get a normal, which is a swirl of vanilla and chocolate (€2). It is virtually tasteless. Just cold.

VERDICT: 80/100

Perhaps fun for the experience but not for the taste (because it doesn’t have any).

Snack Express (Berlin, Germany)

Small Imbiss on outside of the Gallerie Kaufhof, a huge department store, at the busy and touristic Alexanderplatz. It carries the usual: various sausages with bread or fries. I get the Currywurst with Fries (€4). The sausage is not the usual, a bit hardy and snappier than usual. The sauce is watery. The fries are undercooked.

VERDICT: 67/100

To be avoided.

PommStore (Berlin, Germany)

PommStore is a German chain that serves Belgian fries as well as potato wedges together with traditional German meats, notably Currywurst and Boulettes. It started in 2009 in Bremen and currently has almost ten locations throughout Germany. I visit the one in the food court of the Mall of Berlin.

I get Menu 2 (€6.95): Currywurst, fries, drink. The sausage is big but a bit bland, the sauce is just curry ketchup. The only nice thing is that you can add spices yourself. The fries are thick and very crispy (couple of times refried?). They look Belgian, but don't taste like it. Still quite decent.

VERDICT: 83/100

If you go, go for the fries, not the meat.

Original Hollāndische Poffertjes (Berlin, Germany)

This is a small food cart that probably travels big fairs in Berlin and beyond. It only makes poffertjes, which are, to put it very simple, small round pancakes that are specific to the Netherlands. I get 8 poffertjes with powder sugar (€3). They are undercooked and tasteless. I don't even eat all of them.

VERDICT: 50/100

Really poor!

Kokomo Eishandwerk (Berlin, Germany)

Kokomo is a small neighborhood place that serves coffee and homemade ice cream. It has some ten different flavors. It caters mainly to hipsters and is rub by a highly pregnant short woman.

 

I get two scoops (€2.40): the lemon is exceptionally fresh and zesty, if a bit sweet, while the pistachio is creamy and tasty.

VERDICT: 92/100

Some of the best non-traditional gelato I have eaten.

Wiener Schnitzel Truck (Berlin, Germany)

The Wiener Schnitzel Truck is a food truck that serves only sweet potato fries (€4) and Schnitzel Sandwich (€5). He has only one big fryer, so almost everything is made to order.

 

I get the Schnitzel Sandwich: it is a relatively small, freshly breaded and deep fried Schnitzel on a Pretzel Bun with arugula, pickle relish, and remoulade sauce. Delicious!

VERDICT: 90/200
