Cheddar’s Casual Café is a chain of restaurants that originated in
Irving, Texas, in 1979 and currently has 135 locations in 23 US states. While
it looks a bit nicer than Applebee’s or Chili’s, it serves a fairly similar
menu of steaks, chicken, seafood, burgers,
salads and desserts.
We start out with
the Onion Rings ($4.49), which is a true mountain of very tasty, hand-battered
onions, fried crispy, and with a nice spicy Cajun dipping sauce. Far too much
to eat as a starter with just two people.
My wife gets the
Fish Tacos ($7.49), while I get the Smokehouse Burger ($7.99) – both with
fries. The Smokehouse is a standard Western-type burger with bacon, bbq sauce,
and crispy onion strips. Tasty but unremarkable. The fries are thick-cut and
somewhat crispy, but slightly underwhelming. My wife also got the Strawberry
Lemonade ($2.29), which was not too sweet and quite addictive.
VERDICT: 84/100
Cheddar’s is a
nicer-looking “neighborhood café” chain with a few remarkable dishes (notably
the onion rings and strawberry lemonade).
